Mother
Goose's Corner
Hello Everyone,
Things are starting to gear up
for this year. The programs that we do and participate in every year
are in the starting stages. Please keep your eyes and ears open for
speakers we have some good ones that are willing to speak for us again
and again but it is nice to find new speakers with new views on
veterans, veterans’ issues and POW/MIAs. Remember that the programs we
present to the public is our opportunity to educate them that all
veterans past, present and future need our support and gratitude, this
is also an excellent time to remind them that there are POW/MIA
unaccounted for from all past wars.
Most of us came to Rolling
Thunder and have stayed members due to our mission statement, each year
when we pay our dues we are not just pledging to be members of Rolling
Thunder for another year. We are pledging our strength to our mission
statement it is more than just words it is something that each of us can
truly be a part of. We need to constantly think of new ways to get
our message across, one of the easiest is to partake in events when
people see a few members they are curious but when they see a larger
number now they are interested and will start asking questions.
February 8 is the final reading
of the proposal to name the Trail in Seville for Gary Eichler who was
killed in Vietnam. I plan on attending and encourage the chapter to
attend too, the council meeting starts at 7:00pm at the Seville Town
Hall. This came about because one person remembered and cared enough to
get involved to right a wrong of almost 40 years. Betty Wright at 80
has accomplished something that people have talked about in the town of
Seville for 4 decades but as Betty said “I have more years behind me
than ahead of me so it needs to get done now”, truly words to live by.
After the meeting on January 10,
five of us joined the Medina VFW to go to Brecksville to play Bingo with
the veterans. I know right away “bingo” old people, WRONG there were a
few older vets but the majority are from this current conflict true
there wasn’t a lot of one on one but it was nice to be entertaining
these young vets.
On Sunday January 17, 2010 The
Moose Lodge in Barberton Ohio was the site of a fund raiser for the Ohio
Veteran’s Memorial Park. Five members from the chapter attended, the
bands were awesome, and they had over 25 baskets that they raffled off.
I am not sure just what the final number$$ was, but the place was packed
with people who were spending money freely on the 50/50’s, the baskets
and other items that were donated the Moose made a nice monetary
donation to the Park.
February 6th at the
VFW in Medina; Valentines dinner $20 a person starts at 5:00pm. This is
a great way to show the VFW we support them too. They have been very
generous with us for the past 4 years in letting us have our meetings
there at no cost. Tickets need to be purchased in advance if you don’t
think you will get to the VFW call and see if they will hold tickets for
you 330-725-0884. Remember if you do call you are committed, because
they use the tickets sold as a head count to purchase the right quantity
of steak and shrimp.
If you have not paid you dues it
is due at the February meeting. Dues is still $30 a person If you
cannot make the meeting please mail it to;
