Mother
Goose's Corner
Hello Everyone,
The
trip to DC was awesome, one of the chapter’s best; we had a total of 22
people in DC 13 chapter members and 9 guests. It is always very special
to be there over Memorial Day weekend and for me and other members who
have made this journey a number of times we feel that DC is where we
need to be each Memorial Day. People come from all over the United
States, Canada and Europe to be part of this event. You would think
that there would be no question that there are live POWs still in
Vietnam and Korea if the numbers in the Pentagon Parking lot count for
anything, then our government should start paying attention. Why hasn’t
House Resolution #111 been passed we have over 1/2 of the House of
Representatives signed on 263 out of 435. Our government has to stop
turning a deaf ear to what the people want and need. We must never stop
speaking out on this issue, we will be proven right. Taking the POW/MIA
flag off of the White House does not mean there is no longer a POW/MIA
issue.
Friday we had the privilege of going to Bethesda Medical Center. The
greeting we received from the staff was amazing it brought tears to most
everyone eyes. We didn’t get to go up on the wards, but we did have the
chance to talk to doctors, nurses and other medical and support staff
that takes care of our troops, it was a very rewarding experience.
Saturday we visited with the Children from TAPS (Tragedy Assistance
Program for Survivors), these children and adults have an annual
convention in DC over memorial Day Weekend where they are taught how to
deal with their grief and to help others. Being able to share part of
their morning was one of the high points of our day and I believe
theirs, also. From there we went to Fort Washington Harley for a pig
roast, then on to the Vet Center to meet up with our friends from the
CVAG (Combat Veterans Alumni Group), this is a PTSD group that we
befriended about 4 years ago, they just call us OHIO.
I
know a lot of you have received emails with videos about Memorial Day
weekend and how one Lone Marine Holds a Salute, the lone marine started
doing this on his own in 2002 he felt the need to say thank you and
welcome home. I just wanted to make sure that as Rolling Thunder that
you know that he stands there the entire time not just while 3,000
motorcycles go by but the whole 950,000 bikes that we help park in the
Pentagon Parking lot. The demonstration ride (not parade) starts at
12:00pm and goes on well past 5:00pm Tim the Lone Marine never leaves
his post he stays the whole time holding a salute. Every year that I
have gone the number has grown, I remember the first year being told
that there were 250,000 bikes in the Pentagon Parking lot; it is just an
amazing thing to be part of such a meaningful weekend.
Thank you to
everyone that donated items and time for the yard sale on June 19 we
brought in $470.
Be safe
when riding and remember to
wear your vest
people do not know we are here if they don't see us.
