CHAPLAINS REPORT
September 2011
Politics as usual has been
in the news daily for weeks now. Perhaps we shall now hear the old chant. “Jobs,
Jobs, Jobs.” Well now if we listen, we shall soon hear that 30% of returning
Veterans have no jobs to support themselves and their families. WWII, Korean,
and Vietnam War Veterans had jobs to return to, but today’s Veteran faces
another battlefield, as they will compare the differences to them in the near
future.
I, as a Chaplain pray that I am wrong; I pray that America comes back to a more
meaningful job market, to provide technology and a solvent employment base for
finding new work and good jobs for our Veterans. However, the signs of recovery
don’t look well at all. Schools have less money to teach, Cities have less money
to serve their citizens and America cannot afford another war which puts us
further in debt. As jobs are created, other jobs are lost. There seems to be no
growth to our lifestyle which is a first for our Veterans to return home to,
perhaps since the Civil War.
It’s time to put America back to work and it’s time to admit that the
battlefields of tomorrow must be here at home. Cities are in disrepair, schools,
and vocation training in limbo. U.S. Public Health Service to costly for some to
seek for treatments, etc. Roads to be fixed, bridges to be repaired and economic
hardships brought on by reasons not the fault of the Working Class American.
Perhaps it is now time for Washington to provide Post 9/11 Bill benefits to
Veterans returning and create jobs for them that are mentioned above to fix
America once again, so we all can benefit from being Americans. “Hire a Vet….NOW
before it is too late!
God Bless you all
Chaplain Tim
