At our last meeting a few questions arose regarding the Transition home, so I was able to speak to Frank and here are the Q&A’s.

Can furniture be donated?

Yes, if you have furniture that you would like to donate they will not be able to store it but will take your name, phone number and item and will contact you directly when it is needed.

How many people are at the home?

Presently, 23 but they hold a maximum of 27.  There are 10 apartments in the home and each vet has a bedroom of their own.

Do they want small appliances?

Yes, they do not need to be in a box or new they only ask that the items be in working order

Additional information to share with everyone.

The home is occupied by veterans coming out of programs from the VA hospitals who have been evaluated and are clean/sober. The maximum amount of time    they are able to stay in the home is 6-months and they must have a job secured before acceptance into the home. There are women (sometimes children)      and men that need our help.

We will continue collecting items for the Transition Home until the August 8 meeting.  In addition to the items previously sent to you via e-mail some additional items are listed below:

Canned Foods
Snacks
Cereal
Items that do not need refrigeration
If you care to assist with RTA passes please make the check payable to RTA and the home will purchase the bus passes
Furniture (contact Transition Home directly and let them know what you have – they do not have storage room so when the item is needed they will contact you directly)

We have been invited as their guests to a “cook out” on August 18 at the Transition Home (9401 Lorain Ave, Cleveland) arrive between 6:00pm and 6:30pm – since we are their guests they have indicated that we will not need to bring anything. (PARKING EITHER ON 94TH OR BEHIND HOME)

At this time we will present the transition home with the Giant Eagle gift cards and also all items that have been collected.  Remember, I will not be able to attend the June/July meeting so contact me directly if you have something to donate during those months and we can discuss how to get it to me.
